The Fisherman’s Retreat Debuts Edition 8 Arran Yalumba Viognier Cask

|

The Fisherman’s Retreat has released Edition 8 single malt Scotch Whisky. From buying the first few single malt whiskies to stock its bar back in 1992 to purchasing its first cask in 1995, Whisky has always been at the heart of the Ramsbottom restaurant, bar, and overall Whisky emporium.

The Fisherman’s Retreat Edition 8 is a seven year old single cask Arran non chill filtered, which has spent its life in a Yalumba Viognier white wine cask on the Isle of Arran. Just 408 bottles of the Scotch have been produced at 50.0% ABV, with an additional 48 bottles produced at 60.4% ABV.

Jim McEwan describes the wines as, “Seems more mature than 7 y/o on the elegant wine like nose. Lots of plump soft grapes sweet and succulent encased in the heart of the spirit and as it opens the nuttiness of the oak develops and together with the toasted sweetness of the malted barley it seems more like a 12 year old. On the palate it’s the quality of the distillate that emerges and together with the oak guides the taste buds into a creme caramel flavour which provides a stage on which the wine influence steals the show. This crispy sweet ambrosial malt delivers in a big way on the palate in harmony with oak, vanilla, plump ripe grapes all held in a cradle of fine oak. For one so young the spirit is enjoying its time in this Yalumba cask. Young love, innocent and pure!”

Now in its 29th year The Fisherman’s Retreat stocks over 500 different Scottish single malt Whiskies, with the majority of these available to try by the dram or purchase by the bottle from their onsite and online shop. The Yalumba Viognier white wine cask was filled in August 2013 with Arran spirit and bottled in February 2021.

These latest releases are currently available on a pre-sale basis at £45.00 ($63 USD) & £55.00 ($77 USD) per bottle until they go on general sale on Monday March 8.
