Farola may be the creative backbone of Barcelona’s flourishing cocktail scene. While bars like Paradiso and Dr. Stravinsky deservedly gain international recognition for their spectacular displays and intriguing ingredient plays, Farola delivers quality and consistency in a laid back, yet lively atmosphere. Live music fills the air of the El Born-located space multiple nights per week, and craft cocktails and apertivios are accompanied by seasonal mediterranean food.

The concentration is on the quality of ingredients and elevating them via thoughtful mixtures. The Mr. White, a play on the Ramos Gin Fizz, uses Sherry to warms up the classic New Orleans cocktail and give it a Spanish twist. There are full menus worth of Negonis, coffee cocktails, and Sherrys. The aperitivo menu, meanwhile, lends a poetic hand to the dry and bitter mixed drinks that help define the history and culture of cocktails in the Mediterranean.

Warm orange light fills Farola. The Gothic-style building sits on a corner and is made of ivory-colored stone. Five nights per week, the space features live bands that whip the bar into a frenzy of electricity and excitement. When the music goes quiet, the atmosphere is ideal for intimate conversation and the exchange of ideas. Indoor and outdoor seating allows visitors the option of enjoying the sights and sounds of El Born.

Like the cocktails, the food menu is concentrated on the quality of ingredients. Nothing is overly complicated, local meats, cheeses, and produce are showcased alongside breads and spreads.

Farola delivers quality ingredients and thoughtful combinations. More than anywhere else in El Born, the bar and eatery delivers an experience that embodies modern Barcelona. Spain and Mediterranean influences mix with live music to create a unique experience. Ruminative, creative, and poetic, Farola is a gem within the city’s impressive bar scene.
